My favorite flowers are pink peonies, hands down, and when I first saw them here in China for the first time like 3 days ago I had to buy a bunch! But, I am not even sure they are peonies now, I think the flowers look different than what I am used to, but the buds look exactly the same. Does anyone know what kind of flower this is?
I remember in the 90s you could get panoramic cameras, or panoramic film or something, and I thought it was really cool for about five minutes before I went back to my normal camera. And I am guessing panoramic pictures wont ever be my specialty, but being in Yangshuo and watching the stunning scenery, at least I had to give it a shot, and I was also kind of curious how it would turn out editing the panoramas in Photoshop. The picture is taken at the top of one of the Yangshuo mountains or hills, called Moon Hill, it has a hole in the middle of the mountain which is kind of interesting, and needless to say the views are great after climbing the approximately 1400 really steep steps to get all the way up.
Ok, back to the photography. First of all, the photoshop command called “photomerge” which automatically puts the panorama picture together for you is just amazing. I only had to do a tiny little bit of cropping and some minor perspective control, other than that it did all the work for me in just one single click. The shots were taken during daytime, worst possible time (not really sunny, but still a lot of harsch light), and I didnt have a tripod or anything, I just shot, this was really just for fun.

Living in China street photography is great – there are always so many things going on in the streets and so many things to shoot. So when it was time for the “picture of the month” for the Oyeblikk girls, I had a hard time choosing a picture, but I ended up with one of my earlier favorites from Liwan, one of the oldest parts of Guangzhou. Just two guys sitting there on a street corner watching the day go by, I call it “two guys and two windows”. There is a calmness to these guys that I like, they make me relax.
So anyway, this is my contribution to Oyeblikk for this month, this page is both inspiring and creative, I like it a lot! Nice to see so many different expressions.

I took A LOT of pictures of Sam today, and she has so many facial expressions, it is just amazing how her face changes in every picture. I got a lot of nice frames, but little Sam would just NOT look in the camera! That is how it is with kids sometimes, one just has to do it on their terms. And with those pretty eyes it doesn’t matter if she doesn’t look straight in the camera anyway.
I am also working on some different picture styles in photoshop, so I would really like to know which one of these styles you like best. Please leave a comment, I would love to hear your opinion!

ok so i love ALL of them!!!!!!!!!!!! i love the first and the last….but really like them all! sorry she’s so difficult!

We went to Yangzhou over the weekend, it was our first time even if it is relatively close to Guangzhou and one of the biggest tourist attractions in China. And now I only ask myself why we hadn’t gone earlier, because it is just so beautiful up there it is almost not possible to explain. If you are ever going to China, go to Yangshuo! But don’t stay in the city, stay in one of the rustic hotels outside the town centre, where the scenery, serenity and beauty are the only things on your mind. The town centre, while also beautiful is pretty much ruined by tourism I would say (but obviously you have to go there too to have a look, just remember to not go during a Chinese holiday…)
We stayed at the Mountain Inn Retreat, right on the Yulong River, with a fantastic view. From there you could rent bikes and go around the little village and your could easily ride to the other sights, such as the Moon hill and the Banyan Tree. or you could just sit outside and watch the scenery and the bamboo floats going down the river with tourists sitting in recliner chairs on the floats. One of the best hotel experiences ever! Mind you it is rustic and quite simple, but still great.
Have just started to work on the pictures, so here is a small taste of the view from our hotel. More to come later!
Oh and by the way, here I have used one of the few exceptions to the rule of thirds, having parted the picture in two halfs, to create symmetry with the reflection in the water. That wouldn’t work as well using the rule of thirds.
